This is a common characteristic of overweight individuals that is not discussed often. It is estimated that 90 percent of individuals with obesity struggle with leptin resistance, an impairment of satiety signals that leads to continued overeating. Some factors that can lead to leptin resistance are:
Diets that are high in fructose and unhealthy fats
Being sleep deprived
Dealing with excess stress
There are a few things that can help balance leptin and help you to lose weight.
Cutting sugar out of the diet
Avoiding any sugary product that ends in "ose" and artificial sweeteners
Read package labels for added sugars, dyes, and GMO's
Get at least 7-8 hours of sleep
Give your liver some support
Minimize snacking, especially late at night
Fast for 12 hours during the night
Some clues that you may have leptin resistance are:
You are not satisfied after eating a meal, and you can't turn the hunger off
You experience food cravings, especially at night, and you snack late
You gain unwanted weight for no logical reason
*Leptin resistance may be one reason you haven't seen the number on the scale move.
