Minerals and the Magic of Magnesium

Our bodies need a host of vitamins and minerals in order to function properly. Magnesium is a mineral found in every part of the body, and it is crucial for the function of the nervous system, and bone density.

Medical studies have shown that more than 75% of US adults don't get enough magnesium in their diet. Magnesium supports your body in many ways- helps with muscle cramps. Have you ever woken up during the middle of the night with a Charlie Horse that hurts so bad you can't stretch it out, and all you can do is grab hold of it (often this is in the calf) and walk around to get some relief? I've been there. Magnesium supports heart health. It affects stress and sleep, promotes bowel regularity, mineral bone density, and turns energy into glucose.

We receive magnesium through a diet in leafy greens, nuts, beans, and fish. Chemicals are now sprayed onto the foods we eat, and that makes it difficult for our bodies to hold those minerals. Magnesium levels also decrease as we age.

Chronic deficiency has been linked to fatigue, depressed mood, internal stress, hypertension, diabetes, and heart issues, such as heart palpitations. Adequate magnesium over a long period of time can increase mineral levels in the bones and may also help prevent joint-related diseases.

Magnesium can block the stress and belly fat hormone cortisol which can cause you to pack on the pounds especially in the mid-section. Magnesium increases water in the intestines and can also be used as a laxative.

Low levels of magnesium can cause- headaches, poor circulation, weight gain, anxiety and stress, sleep problems, legs cramps, and low energy.

You are most likely to be magnesium deficient if you are over 65 years of age, have digestive issues, low mineral holders, and a poor diet.

The only side effect of magnesium is an increase in bowel movements. So, it's also good for constipation. There are so many minerals and vitamins that play a role in our everyday bodily functions. I'll be sharing more about that later on.

3 John 1:2- Beloved, I pray that you may prosper and be in good health, even as your soul prospers.

Recommendation for a good night's sleep are- a hot bath with lavender, and a magnesium cream.
