Self-care Check-In

Self-care goes way beyond the basic essential things that we do daily. Often, life gets so busy we put self-care on the back burner. After a while of doing this, we feel tired, worn down, and unwell. Yet we wonder why this happened. Have you been there? Do you find yourself there today? Below are a few ways that you can slow down, calm the nervous system, and feel renewed. Take a few minutes to answer these questions.

  • How am I feeling today?

  • What am I grateful for?

  • What do I need to do?

  • What do I want to accomplish, or what can wait?

  • What are my stress triggers?

  • Take a moment to affirm yourself.

  • Just breathe, notice your breath, then ground yourself where you are.

  • Take a moment to notice your senses of sight, smell, taste, touch, and hearing. These affect the nervous system and can also calm it as well.

  • Think of a favorite place and mentally go there to give your mind and body a rest, time to renew and restore.

  • Close your eyes and breathe in for five seconds, hold your breath for five seconds, and slowly exhale for five seconds to let the tension and stress go.

  • How do you feel now?

  • More calm?

  • Clearer?

  • Focused?

Doing this can work wonders when you are having a stressful day and are being pulled in several different directions.
