The Journey Began...
After experiencing the ups and downs of my own health journey over the past two years, I felt compelled to share a few things.
I've had people ask me, "Well, how did you do it?"
The answer is: One day at a time. Nothing worth accomplishing can happen in a split second. We live in a microwave society, and people want everything pronto. But restoring health and rebalancing your body takes some time. Celebrities have all of the quick things that they do, but most people don't do that.
I've had others message me about what they were doing and ask me if it was the right thing. Well, I don't know because there are a lot of factors that play into it. No two people are the same, and what works for one may not work for another. The body systems work together as a whole, and when one thing is out of balance, it throws everything else out of balance. I've worked with people who were addicted to sugar and fast food, and they only sleep a maximum of four hours each night. As we age, our bodies begin to change; cell production slows down, hormones slow down, and so does our energy level.
When I decided to put my health first, I was faced with a lot of opposition and even had some unfriend me and not talk to me. Which I thought was crazy, but anyway. LOL I did what I had to do for me and my health.
I knew that my body needed help in several ways, and so I started out by addressing one thing at a time. I did an elimination diet; I cut out sugar and sweet tea, and I stopped eating fast food and frying my foods. That alone helped to heal my gut and repair damage that had been done due to having gluten sensitivity. I also cleansed my liver of toxins, balanced my blood sugar, and worked to get my A1C at a good level from having insulin resistance. Then I balanced what was out of whack with my hormonal system. I had begun experiencing anxiety, so I found ways to de-stress and make much-needed time for myself. I set some boundaries and learned to say no. I realized that I was not Wonder Woman and that the world would keep on if I stopped to breathe. I also found ways to relax by practicing mindfulness and taking the time to do some of the things I truly enjoy. We cannot give from an empty vessel. We have to keep our cups full.
In talking with others, I often hear that they are "tired" and "busy." I know how that is because I was too. I felt like if I didn't keep everyone else happy, I had failed. But in the long run, I was the one who suffered from it for years. Looking back, I would change a few things. Wouldn't we all if given the chance? After I worked on bringing balance to my body, I started working on my mental health, and I dealt with some things that had affected my life in a negative way, even back from childhood. I grew up in a very strict home and religion. I worked through some things and found forgiveness for those who had hurt me, lied about me, or used me. This took prayer and seeking God's guidance along the way.
We are connected in body, mind, and spirit. (The Holistic approach)Each part is affected in a positive or negative way, and this can do the body harm, or it can help you immensely. We can't hold onto the things of the past and walk into a brighter future that God has planned for us.
In any of my coaching, whether it is Holistic, Hormone, or Christian coaching, I have my client do a health history, which is free, and that tells me, first, if we are a fit to work together on the areas you want to experience change in. Not everyone is a fit for me, or I for them. So, this is not just a quick-fix diet thing. It takes commitment, determination, and work. When others think of dieting and losing weight, it's immediately seen as a food plan and having to give something up. But people don't like change, and they don't like being told what to do. Who does? However, there is so much more to it. I look at the family history, the client's general health history, the struggles they've faced or are currently facing, and then we start at the beginning and work our way to the weight, while bringing healing to the body, mind, and spirit.
So there is no one answer I can tell you about that will work for you until we address the current issues, find the root, and find a solution. If given the right tools, the body can heal itself. That is the way God designed our bodies. 3 John 1:2
